Place of Instruction
Bergen and Kiel. The stay in Kiel is voluntary, lasts for three weeks and covered by the individual student. There will be teaching in Bergen for the students who elect not go.
Objectives and Content
The course consists of an entry-level course in German grammar. The course provides an introduction into German morphology (nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs) and basic characteristics of German syntax (grammatical analysis, independent and subordinate clauses, cases, tenses).

- have laid a good foundation for expanding one¿s own practical and theoretical competence in the German language

Required Previous Knowledge
No official requirements, yet all teaching is conducted in German and presupposes a good knowledge of German.
Recommended Previous Knowledge
Students are advised to ensure they have the knowledge and skills in German equivalent to level II from high school.
Credit Reduction due to Course Overlap
Due to academic overlaps, the credits awarded in TYS105 are reduced by 10 ECTS if combined with TYS111, TYS111H, TYS111-F, TYS621 or TYS625, and by 5 ECTS if combined with TYSK622.
Access to the Course
The course is open to all students admitted to the University of Bergen.
Teaching and learning methods
Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures in which the students are required to actively partake, and an exercise group. The teaching in parts of TYS105 may be taken at the University in Kiel. Students who elect to stay on in Bergen are offered the same amount of teaching (online).
- 1 two-hour lectures and 1 two-hour exercise group weekly for 12 weeks.
- "Prepare pacages" with video, written material or different that equals a two-hour lecture
- 3 weeks may be taken in the study center in Kiel.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Students must attend at least 75 % of the lectures in Bergen. In the course of the semester, two short writing exercise are to be written. All assignments must be approved by the instructor in one and the same semester before admission to the course exam is granted.
Mandatory assignments are valid for one semester following the semester of instruction.
Forms of Assessment
The exam consists of a four-hour written school exam. The exam may be digital.

German-only dictionary.
Grading Scale
The exam is marked on a scale from A to F, where F means that the candidate fails.
Assessment Semester
Spring. Students with valid approvals on their mandatory assignments may also be assessed early in the fall semester.
Reading List
The reading list comprises central features of German grammar and language exercises.
The reading list will be ready by 1 Jun for the fall semester, and 1 Dec for the spring semester.
Course Evaluation
Evaluation of the course is carried out in accordance with the University of Bergen quality assurance system.
Programme Committee
The program committee is responsible for the academic content and structure of the study program, and for the quality of all the subjects therein.
Course Administrator
The Department of Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Humanities has the administrative responsibility for the course and the study program.
