Objectives and Content

Experience, develop understanding of, and reflect critically on professional/academic practice, through participation in the daily operations of a development/government/research organisation. The student will work in the host institution performing duties agreed to in an Internship Agreement. As part of the internship, time is set aside with the internship mentor at the host institution for discussions about the student's experience, and the institution's experience with the student.

Required Previous Knowledge

Completion of the first year of study in the master¿s programme in Global Development Theory and Practice

Access to the Course

All students enrolled in master's programme in Global Development Theory and Practice; no guest students may participate

Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

Hands-on experience working in a professional setting, there are no lectures or other classroom teaching activities

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

The student must complete the requirements of the internship Agreement and the internship mentor at the host institution must confirm that this is done.

Forms of Assessment

One written assignment must delivered by the end of the internship semester; a 20-30 page paper discussing all learning outcomes including the self-established outcomes (the paper's contents should focus on methods and activities used to master an objective, the results achieved, critical reflection about the experience).
The paper should also state new professional learning outcomes to be mastered by the end of the programme, and reflection on how they might achieve the new learning outcomes.
