Objectives and Content

Objectives and Content:
The course gives a practical introduction to the application of marine geological and marine geophysical instrumentation and field methods (seismic, multibeam and sediment sampling) for acquisition and analyses/interpretation of seismic profiles, bathymetric data and sediment cores. There will be a theoretical introduction on the methods applied in the field and in the laboratories. The students must carry out an interpretation on the acquired/retrieved acoustic data set and in addition describe and analyse the sediment core material and present and discuss the results in a report.

Access to the Course

Access to the course requires admission to a programme of study at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

3 days field course/cruise. Compulsory assignments are valid for 2 subsequent semesters.

Forms of Assessment

The forms of assessment are: Report.

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.

Assessment Semester

Spring. Assessment is only provided in semesters with teaching.

Reading List

The reading list will be available within June 1st for the autumn semester and December 1st for the spring semester.

Course Evaluation

The course will be evaluated by the students in accordance with the quality assurance system at UiB and the department.
