Objectives and Content

This course gives a simple introduction to basic NMR theory, a thorough introduction to practical modern pulse/FT NMR spectroscopy for liquids. Experimental set-up and accomplishment of a series of 1- and 2-dimensional experiments will be covered in exercises in a modern NMR laboratory. For the 2-dimensional NMR experiments, homonuclear and heteronuclear scalar couplings or homonuclear dipolar couplings will be used. The theory of some of the corresponding pulse sequences will also be illustrated.

KJEM230 Analytic organic chemistry. Some knowledge in quantum mechanics is useful.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Compulsory information meeting in the beginning of the semester. Attendance to five of in total seven colloquium.

Laboratory course. Compulsory work are valid for five following semesteres.
Compulsory work must be submitted within the given deadlines for the course. Approval of the compulsory work is necessary to get admittance to the written exam.

Compulsory HSE II-course for master students must be passed in order to be admitted to KJEM351. The HSE II-course is arranged in the beginning of the semester at Department of Chemistry.

Forms of Assessment

Written examination (4h). In case 4 or less candidates are registered, the examination may be oral.

Due to the measures taken to avoid the spread of Covid-19, UiB is closed for on-campus assessment. As a consequence, the following changes is made to assessment autumn semester 2020:
