On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student

• has theoretical knowledge of medical diagnostic ultrasound
• knows the indications and limitations of the three diagnostic procedures

Skills

The student

• may handle the abdominal ultrasound apparatus (VSCAN)
• may estimate bladder volume; identify an empty bladder or volume > 100-150 ml
• may identify a vital intrauterine pregnancy from week 6-7 (1st trimester)
• may determin whether the fetus lays in a head or breech position (3rd trimester)

General competence

The student

• may use this knowledge and skills in treatment of patients while working as general practitioner
