Bachelor of Science
Three years of full-time study, where the normal workload for a full-time student is 60 credits for one academic year.
The development of advanced IT-solutions often depends on knowledge based on a good mathematical understanding of the methods that are used. The Bachelor program in Computer Science gives the candidates exactly this competence.
The first semesters of the program the students will be learning data programming as well as acquiring basic mathematical knowledge. During the following semesters students will have the possibility to specialize further within different directions.
The study program focuses on fundamental knowledge and requires a good mathematical background. As computer technology changes rapidly, the education is focused on teaching fundamental methods that will last beyond the lifetime of the current technology. Students will also acquire skills to develop information technology further.
Through the study program the students get practical experience and reach a broad level of competence. They also become prepared for further studies on the master and doctorate level. For an overview of possible directions, see the information about the different master programs.
On completion of the programme the candidate should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge

The specialization in the study programme totals 110 ECTS, and consists of the following courses: MAT111, INF100, MNF130, INF101, MAT121, INF122, INF102, MAT221, INF142, INF227, STAT110
The recommended sequence of the courses:
5. semester: STAT110
4. semester: INF227, INF142
3. semester: INF122, INF102, MAT221
2. semester: MNF130, INF101, MAT121
1. semester: INF100, MAT111
The programme committee has made adaption for students who want to take parts of the study abroad.
At UiB the grades are given in one of two possible grading scales: passed/failed and A to F.
The grading scale for each course is given in the course description.
Bachelor¿s degrees give admission to a master¿s programme within relevant discipline.
To qualify for a master¿s programme at UiB the average grade for the specialization in the bachelor's degree should be at least C.
What possibilities does the program offer you?
And many more! You will be qualified for a number of exciting and varied jobs within the IT-industry, not only in typical IT-companies. People with a computer science background are also highly demanded in areas such as finance and banking, the oil industry, and also insurance and consulting. With a bachelor in computer science you have the competence and knowledge to perform a wide specter of tasks.. Through the whole study program you will be trained in problem solving in different areas. This will come handy no matter what you decide to work on.
