Objectives and Content
Objectives:
The course aims to provide students with broad knowledge in key professional elements of ocean technology and convey an understanding of the subject area distinctiveness and challenges.
Content:
The course consists of a selection of modules such as:
Introduction to marine biology, marine environment and environmental changes
Introduction to seabed geology
Introduction to oceanography
Introduction to sea/ marine law
Introduction to marine technology (terminology, floating marine structures, hydrostatics)
Introduction to marine acoustics and optics
Introduction to offshore renewable energy
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Access to the Course
Access to the course requires admission to the Integrated Master's Programme in Ocean Technology
Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching
The teaching method is by lectures and excursions
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Compulsory attendance. Approved compulsory assignments are valid for 2 subsequent semesters.
Forms of Assessment
The forms of assessment are:- Final multiple choice exam (2 hours) 80% of total grade.
- Reflection paper summarizing the course excursions 20% of total grade.
Examination Support Material
Basic calculator allowed in accordance with the regulations specified by the Faculty.
Grading Scale
The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.

Reading List
The reading list will be available within June 1st for the autumn semester and January 1st for the spring semester.
Course Evaluation
The course will be evaluated by the students in accordance with the quality control system at UiB and the department.
