Objectives:The aim of the course is to allow the students to become proficient in relevant archaeological themes and periods 500 BCE-1500 CE

When resources allow it, the department offers teaching in one or more themes. The course encompasses the period 500 BCE-1500 CE. Specializations can change dependent on available resources for teaching and relevant research.

After completion of this course, the student has accomplished the following:

• has knowledge of central themes, theories, discussions, processes, tools and methods within the period 500 BCE-1500 CE
• has knowledge of research and development work within the period
• can update their knowledge within the period
• knows the history, traditions, distinctiveness and societal context of the period
• has good knowledge and insight in the chosen topic

Skills

The student

• can use academic knowledge on practical and theoretical issues and explain their choices.
• can reflect over their own academic practice and adjusting it under guidance
• can find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter and relate this to academic discussion
• can use relevant academic tools, techniques and expressions that are relevant to research during the period of 500 BCE-1500 CE
• can problematize and use relevant terminology and discuss archaeological representations within the subject
• can evaluate and analyze literature and archaeological findings and be able to make independent assessments
  

General specialisation
The student

• has knowledge of relevant academic and work ethical issues
• can plan and carry out tasks and projects alone and in groups and in accordance with ethical requirements and guidelines
• can present key subjects such as theories, issues and solutions, both written, verbal and through other relevant expression forms
• can exchange views with others with background in the subject area and participate in discussions on the development of good practice
• knows new thinking and innovation processes in the field of specialization can engage in extensive literature, convey knowledge and viewpoints, and make own assessments in written work

The department prepare readings list. The syllabus is about 1200 pages.

The reading list will be ready before 01.06 for the autumn semester and 01.12 for the spring semester.
