Objectives and Content
The course consists of two parts:
- An introduction to the Norwegian health care system, which includes patient contact and communication
- The human musculoskeletal system
The course consists of the following modules:
- The human musculoskeletal system
- Examination techniques of the human musculoskeletal l system
- Practicum/work placement at hospitals and introduction to emergency medicine
- Patient contact and communication
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:
After completing the course, the student will know:
- The core structure of the Norwegian health care system
- The concepts of professionalism and professional maturation, and their relevance to the medical education and the role of the doctor
- The structure and function of the human musculoskeletal system, including surface anatomy
Skills:
After completing the course, the student will able to:
- Understand the division between the primary and specialist health care systems
- Carry out a professional conversation with a patient about disease and health experiences
- Conduct a basic clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system
General competence:
After completing the course, the student will be able to behave in a professional and dignified manner, in practice within the health care system and when conducting examinations of the musculoskeletal system.
Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Participation in courses and essays during the semester is mandatory.
Forms of Assessment
3 hours written exam and oral/practical exam for 12 students on the patient contact module and 24 students for the musculoskeletal system module. The written exam accounts for 75 % of the total grade, the oral/practical exam for 25 %.

A-F
Course Evaluation
Written evaluation. Regular meetings between course coordinators and the student representatives.
