- a general overview of key issues, theory issues and contentious issues in recent political theory.

- a general understanding of similarities and differences between different theoretical approaches, argumentation and presentation methods.

Skills:

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

- know and critically evaluate theoretically the main positions and argumentative methods in professional philosophical literature and in general political discussions.

- communicate features of these main positions and arguments in the professional as well as in the general context.

- reflect on the relevance of different directions in modern political theory for understanding current social, cultural and institutional change processes.

Competence:

After completing the course, the student should have competence to:

- work individually and address central topics in the literature in contemporary political theory.

- convey knowledge of this literature and perspectives on relevant issues to a professional and to the general public.

- assess the relevance of central concepts and theoretical ideas in analyzing and reflecting on central political issues.

- identify and critically evaluate methods of argumentation and presentation in both professional and general texts on social, cultural and institutional change processes.

In combination with other subjects and subjects, the course can be part of an education that qualifies for teaching philosophy in secondary school or high school. The course may also be an asset to support in-depth study of basic questions in connection with the study of other subjects.

The teaching takes the form of lectures and/or seminars

If fewer than four students are registered, the number of lectures/seminars may be reduced. The students will be offered individual or group teaching.

An approval of mandatory work requirements is valid for three semesters from and with the semester the approval finds the city, in accordance with ordinary rules.

Submission of draft court papers before individual guidance.

Individual guidance by subject teacher.

Submission of one assignment answer of 900-1200 words. The assignment is given by the subject teacher. Deadline is set by the institute. The answer must be approved in order to take the exam.

A supervised essay of between 4000 and 6000 words (not including content list, literature list etc). The topic of the assignment must be approved by the subject teacher beforehand. The assignment will be delivered digitally and will be censored at the end of the semester.

The exam is arranged at the end of the semester in which the course is taught. In the semester following, the mid-semester exam will be arranged.

The compulsory work requirements must be approved before the examination can be taken in the course.

Compulsory work requirements must be approved in one semester with teaching in order to be able to register for an exam in a semester without teaching.
