Courses: GEOV372 Integrated Interpretation of Seismic and Geophysical Data - Autumn 2018

Objectives and Content

The goal of the course is to give the students advanced training in the interpretation of well logs and seismic attribute data as well as the coupling between these two data types. These are basic skills for further work in petroleum industry as well as in other industries and public resource management where subsurface data are central.

In the logging part of the course acquisition of log-data is presented, how the different logging tools work, what they measure and how log-data are used to interpret lithology, pore-fluid content, porosity and hydrocarbon contacts. In addition depositional environment interpretation, calculation of hydrocarbon volumes from well log data and tying between seismic and well data are covered. In the seismic part of the course, seismic interpretation techniques are presented with focus on visualization and interpretation of seismic attributes. The course makes use of the Petrel software. Understanding various data types and loading these into Petrel is included in this course.
