Language of Instruction

English.

Objectives and Content

The aim of the course is to develop knowledge about molecular biological methods used in diagnostics, characterization of pathogenic microorganisms and host responses in fish and other aquaculture species. This knowledge is developed through laboratory exercises, lectures, discussions and writing journals.

Topics provide a practical introduction to the most important methods. Students will learn to use reagents and equipment from their own experience, and understand how enzyme reactions and molecular interactions can be used to examine blood and tissue samples from fish. Some methods will be presented as demonstrations/lectures.

Participation in the course is compulsory. Lectures and discussions will take place between laboratory exercises and involves full working days for two weeks. The deadline for submission of the laboratory journal is two weeks after the laboratory course is completed.
