Objectives and Content

Practical training on a model mounted in a mannequin and on a fellow student, to learn how to deal with instruments and equipment used by dental hygienists. Interdisciplinary introduction lectures on theoretical and clinical dentistry, initial diagnosis, manual skills and professional attitudes that will qualify the student for independent work as a dental hygienist.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge
Students will be able to explain

- the term "preventative dental healthcare"

- simplified nomenclature used in the dental hygienist profession

- hygiene plan at the Faculty of Medicine

Skills
The candidate will be able to

- use hand instruments and devices used in the dental hygienist's work (hand instrument for removing calculus, rotating polish equipment, etc.), and maintenance of these.

- detect and remove plaque and tartar in a gentle manner

- instruct the appropriate brush technique and inter-dental cleaning

- use various fluoride prophylactic remedies

- classify and polish dental fillings

- identify caries

General qualifications
The student should develop the skills to implement and evaluate their practical work on a model mounted in a mannequin and on a fellow student

Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

Teaching such as seminars, laboratory exercises and clinical practice on fellow students under the guidance of a dental hygienist instructor and dentist instructor.

Written examination

Pass/Fail in the clinic/ECTS-scale in written exam
