Objectives and Content
Working professionally as a clinical nutritionist (CN) requires an understanding of the individual in the biological, psychological and social context. As a CN it is necessary to master clinical communication, consultations and the treatment of patients. Communication is required with both individuals and groups with the aim of changing behaviour. It is therefore necessary to know about educational methods and motivational conversation techniques.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students are expected to have:
Knowledge:
- capable of describing communication processes and challenging situations in clinical communication
- capable of describing common ethical challenges in clinical communication
Skills:
- capable of applying patient-centred consultation techniques
- capable of applying motivational conversation techniques
- capable of using own techniques in oral or written presentations and dissemination
Competence:
- ability to communicate with patients and the public
Required Previous Knowledge
Completion of BSc human nutrition
Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching
Teaching is student-centred, based on dialogue, reflection and experience
Lectures about 20 hours, practical exercises about 4 hours, consultation about 17 hours
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Participation in the exercises, consultation
Presentation of an assignment
Forms of Assessment
Mandatory participation (at least 80%).
Grading Scale
Passed / failed
Course Evaluation
There will be a written evaluation at the end of the course.
