Objectives and Content

Main objectives:

The course will give an introduction to fundamental statistical principles and methods with application to health-related research.

 

. Contents:

- Methods for reporting and summarizing data using tables and graphs, reporting numbers and descriptive statistics for continuous data.

- Basic distribution: Normal (Gaussian) distribution and the Binomial distribution.

- Terms in statistical inference: Sample and population, hypothesis, hypothesis test, test-observator, level of significance, p-value and confidence interval.

Knowledge

After completing the course, the students should:

Understand the basic principles for use of quantitative research methods.

 

Skills

After completing the course, the students should be able to:

- explain basic descriptive measures

- show that they understand the conditions for generalizing results, and the principle for statistic tests

- decide which analyses and tests that should be used in common study designs

 

General competence:

After completing the course, the students should

- show critical reflection in the use of methods and methodological problems in written texts.

Bachelor degree

Includes 20 hours of lectures.
