On completion of the course GEOV251 a students should be able to:
- Quantitatively describe stress and strain
- Quantitatively describe conditions for brittle and viscous failure
- Quantitatively describe and understand rheology of the lithosphere
- Describe normal, reverse, and strike slip fault regimes and associated structures
- Plot and understand geometrical relationships between primary structural features (faults, folds, lineations, tension fractures)
- Describe and characterise a wide range of geological structures from the micro to the mesoscale;
- Unravel complex deformation histories
- Reconstruct DPTt-path
- Provide a solid understanding of brittle and plastic deformation processes
- Describe and understand basic principles of balanced structural section construction
