Objectives and Content

The course will provide the students with basic knowledge in biochemistry and molecular biology in order to qualify the students for further studies. The students will gain insight in experimental molecular biology and an overview of biotechnological methods.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of the course, the student should have acquired basic knowledge and insight into the biochemistry and function of cells, as well as knowledge of cellular regulation. The student should be able to describe the basic structures, properties and metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. In addition, the student should be familiar with safety regulations in laboratory courses, have an overview of biochemical and cell biological experimental methods and have developed practical skills in some biochemical and molecular biological methods.

Access to the Course

Master´s programme in Pharmacy and Master in Pharmacy for pharmacy technicians

Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

Lectures, question times, organised and partly led colloquium groups, safety course, laboratory course.

The course is of 7-8 weeks duration. Approx. 6 hours of lectures per week. In addition are laboratory courses.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Participation in the safety and laboratory courses is mandatory. Lab procedures must be executed in a satisfactory manner. Laboratory journals have to be approved before students can take the final exam. The students are encouraged to attend lectures and colloquium groups.

Forms of Assessment

4 hour written exam.
