SkillsThe candidate will be able to
- Diagnose the eruption and occlusal anomalies at various ages
- Inform patients about the orthodontic treatment need (or no need), when the treatment should be initiated, what it involves and its risk factors
- Refer patients with treatment need to a dentist or a specialist in orthodontics and communicate and collaborate with them especially regarding prophylactic measures during treatment
- Inform patients about reimbursement of costs associated with orthodontic treatment
- Motivate patients to break habits (bad habits) that have a negative effect on the occlusion and thereby prevent the development of malocclusion
- Plan and carry out prophylactic measures for patients undergoing treatment with othodontic appliances
General competenceThe candidate will be able to
- Identify normal deviations in tooth eruption and occlusion
- Inform the patient about treatment needs (or no need), of anomalies and National Health reimbursement system in connection with orthodontic treatment
- Evaluate the timing and give the reasons for referral of patients to orthodontists
- Inform of the adverse effects associated with orthodontic treatment
- Collaborate with orthodontists regarding prophylactic measures for patients undergoing treatment with orthodontic appliances
