Health policy and ideological conditions for practicing nursing care will be discussed. Focus will further bee on the concept of caring, different theories of caring, and research on caring.

• Caring on a system level: Formal conditions: Legislation and health care policy
• Caring theories from a feminist, humanistic and health care perspective
• Caring research related to the different perspectives

After completing the program the students should:

• have advanced knowledge and being able to critically analyse political and ideological conditions for practicing professional care

• have advanced knowledge and being able to reflect critically on theories of caring both on individual and system level

• have knowledge about current caring research and being able to evaluate research results critically

• being able to apply theoretical caring perspctives to significant questions within nursing

• Presentations of the theoretical literature and its relation to the planned research thesis oral
• Individual homework
