Objectives and Content

The students should document that they can think and work in a scientific manner. The aim of the thesis is for students to gain experience of scholarly work by planning, carrying out and presenting (in writing and orally) a scientific project.

 

The thesis should be on a nutrition-related problem / topic. It can be either an empirical study or a literature review. It is possible to start during the 5th semester. The thesis must be submitted at the end of the 6th semester. The programme committee will ensure that there is a list of relevant topics. All scientists involved in teaching the bachelor programme can submit a topic and can serve as supervisors. The thesis can be written in English or Norwegian.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students are expected to have:

 

Knowledge:

- familiar with and capable of putting the relevant scientific literature into context

- capable of using references in a scholarly way

- capable of carrying out a limited scientific project under supervision

- capable of evaluating and presenting scientific results (in writing and orally)

Required Previous Knowledge

Completion of at least 120 ECTS in the bachelor program in human nutrition

Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

Lectures on scientific methods, the use of scientific references, statistics and presentation techniques. The students are expected to work independently under supervision. The thesis should be of about 5,000 to 8,000 words (without references, appendices, tables). Students are expected to give an oral presentation (10 minutes) plus discussion (max. 10 minutes).

Forms of Assessment

Individual written thesis and oral presentation. Each student will be evaluated individually.

Grading: A-F

Course Evaluation

There will be a written evaluation at the end of the course.
