Objectives and Content

The course offers students a thorough training in the use of selected bioinformatical tools for use in functional annotation of proteins. The course includes projects where students work together. These exercises are based on bioinformatical research at the department. As part of working with the project, the students are trained to critically evaluate methods and results. The theme of the projects may vary, but at the moment they involve structural bioinformatics. The course can be part of the Master's program in molecular biology as long as it doesn't overlap with the content of the master thesis. It is the supervisor of the master thesis and course responsible for MOL217 that together will decide if there is an overlap.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide a thorough knowledge about selected bioinformatical tools through case-studies based on experimental data and evaluation of tool performance.

Required Previous Knowledge

The students should know basic principles of molecular biology (MOL100+MOL200 or equivalent) and must have passed an introductory course in applied bioinformatics (MOL204 or equivalent).

MOL201 and MOL203

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Project exercises and group work.

 

 

Forms of Assessment

Oral exam (30%), possibly written exam (2h) depending of the number of students enrolled, and a written semester thesis (70%). Examination support materials: None

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
