Courses: GEOV352 Field Methods in Petroleum Geology - Spring 2017
Credits
5.0
Language of Instruction
English if english-speaking students attend the seminars, otherwise Norwegian
Teaching semester
Spring. This is a course with limited capacity.
Objectives and Content
The course comprises field exercises focusing on field methodology in relation to structural geology/tectonics, sedimentology/sequence stratigraphy and reservoir technology/reservoir modelling. Understanding fluid flow in sandstone reservoirs in light of these aspects is essential. The course will use problem-based learning (PBL) where the students work in groups solving relevant problems related to real data. The group work starts prior to the field trip and the groups will also work together after the field trip when finalizing the reports.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course GEOV352 the student should have:
increased and integrated knowledge related to structural geology/tectonics,
sedimentology/sequence stratigraphy and
reservoir technology/reservoir modeling
Required Previous Knowledge
Bachelor¿s degree in geology/geophysics.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Participation on the preliminary work, the field trip and the collaboration work after the field trip is mandatory.
