Objectives and Content

Geomorphology is the study of landforms and the processes responsible for their formation. The active processes depend on time and location. Through lectures, essay and field assignments, the course deals with geomorphic processes in different climate zones and tectonic regimes, the relationship between landforms, geodynamics and bedrock, as well as the evolution of landforms in Norway. Searching for relevant information, referencing, and reference management form parts of the process of writing one's own texts.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course GEOV229 the student should be able to:

1) describe landforms and their responsible processes in different climate zones,

2) reproduce theories and models for landscape evolution,

3) evaluate mechanism of formation, age and preservation history of landforms in Norway,

4) plan and carry out a geomorphological field investigation (observe, interpret, report),

5) search and find information relevant for the essay topics,

6) evaluate what needs referencing in one's own text,

7) use a relevant software tool for reference management.

Required Previous Knowledge

Basic knowledge in geology, paleontology, sedimentology, quarternary geology and geochemistry

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
