Spring. This is a course with limited capacity and master's students in Marine Biology will given priority.

Objectives and Content

The course provides an overview of Norwegian marine plankton/benthic algae species and their habitats.The course includes lectures, laboratory teaching and fieldwork. The fieldwork will in general be carried out at University of Bergen's Marine Biological Station (Espegrend).

 

Learning Outcomes

- Describe and name common Norwegian algae species (phytoplankton and bethic algae) covered in the course and knowing what habitats that species are assocoated with. Know which systematic groups the species belong to.

- Have basic species knowledge for further studies in aquatic subjects, and future career in teaching and administratio.

- Have basic knowledge to collecting methods for research and management

Required Previous Knowledge

Compulsory parts of Bachelor's degree in Biology

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Participation (on lectures, field/lab course) is compulsory.

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
