Objectives and Content
This course deals with the drugs normally used in fish farming. The course provides an introduction to the most important pharmacological principles related to the use of drugs (their absorption, mechanism of action, distribution, metabolism and excretion). The possible effects of drugs on the environment near fish farms will also be covered. An overview of the most relevant legislation will be given.
Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to give a basic understanding of pharmacology, especially with regards to the drugs used in fish farming. Other goals are to provide the knowledge required to evaluate the use of drugs and to improve communication/co-operation with other specialists in the field of fish farming. The course also deals with practical matters of drug use in fish farming (including a mandatory 1-day excursion) as well as relevant legislation and prescription writing.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
One compulsory assignment on a selected topic. The students must present the assignment in plenum. Approved compulsory assignments are valid in 6 semesters.
Forms of Assessment
Written exam (3 hours) (70%) and evaluation of selected assignments and oral presentation (30%)
Examination support materials: Non- programmable calculator, according to model listed in faculty regulations
Grading Scale
The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
