After completing the master's degree programme in pharmacy the candidates are able to:

• Explain all steps in the development of a pharmaceutical from synthesis or isolation and structure elucidation of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) via formulation, manufacture, quality assurance and quality control to clinical trials and assembling necessary documentation.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of pharmaceuticals and their application, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics including the choice of drug, dosage, important side effects, interactions and medicines management in connection with the most common diseases.
• Perform independent pharmaceutical professional functions in pharmacies and other health service arenas.
• Perform their professional functions in accordance with laws, regulations and ethical guidelines for the profession.
• Collaborate with other health professionals to obtain optimal drug therapy for the individual patient.
• Acquire new knowledge and critically assess scientific literature and information about pharmaceuticals.
• Communicate evidence-based knowledge and discuss professional and scientific issues with other health professionals as well as with users of pharmaceuticals.
• Explain the characteristics of the pharmaceutical market and discuss the use of pharmaceuticals in a national as well as an international perspective.
• Proceed to PhD studies in pharmaceutical sciences.

Formal requirements: A candidate with a master's degree in Pharmacy should:

• Have knowledge, skills and professional attitudes in pharmacy sufficient to qualify for public authorisation as a pharmacist by application in accordance with Act of 2nd July 1999, No 64 relating to health personnel etc. (the Health Personnel Act)
• Be eligible for approval as a pharmacist in the EU by application in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications

Be eligible for approval as a "Qualified Person" (QP) in accordance with Regulation No 1441 of 2 November 2004: Regulation concerning the production and import of pharmaceutical products.
