Objectives and Content

The course deals with etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries involving the dental pulp, and sequelae of these.

The student shall be able to prevent, diagnose and treat endodontic diseases involving the dental pulp and the apical periodontium. The course addresses topics such as emergency treatment, root canal treatment, prevention, prognosis assessment and evaluation of work performed. Further, the candidate shall be able to evaluate the treatment outcome. The graduated candidate is expected to handle and treat most of the endodontic problems occurring in general practice with confidence. The clinical practice should be based on existing knowledge from basic disciplines such as oral microbiology, physiology, oral anatomy and biomaterial sciences.

Lectures, seminars, theme based learning and clinical treatment of patients

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

The student has to take part in theme based learning, case presentation and self-assessment of clinical activities. Approved endodontic clinical course is a prerequisite for taking the exam.

All teaching is mandatory, except for lectures. The student is responsible for reporting absences, and unexcused absences are not allowed.¿In addition to the attendance requirements, the academic requirements must be met, both in terms of the quality of the work and sufficient practice.

The reading list will be ready within the 1st of December before the course commences in the 6th semester. It will be made available through MittUiB.
