Teaching commences in the autumn semester and concludes in the spring semester.

Objectives and Content

Objective:

This course in pedodontics will provide the student with an understanding of health promotion, prevention and treatment of dental and oral diseases of children and adolescents 0-18 years, including children with chronic health conditions.

Content:

The course will consist of behavioral aspects in pediatric dentistry (clinical communication, dental fear, pain control, sedation, general anesthesia). The instructions will also include aspects on how to communicate with children and their parents and how to prevent dental fear for treatment. As pediatric dentistry applies to the child population, the issues of child abuse and neglect are included in the instruction.

Teaching and learning methods

The instruction consists of lectures, seminars and clinical training.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Seminars and clinical training. Passed clinical training is a prerequisite to take the theoretical exam.

All teaching is mandatory, except for lectures. The student is responsible for reporting absences, and unexcused absences are not allowed.¿In addition to the attendance requirements, the academic requirements must be met, both in terms of the quality of the work and sufficient practice.

In this subject, mandatory activities are valid for two semesters.
