Objectives and Content

Biomaterials is the subject which deals with materials and processing methods used in dentistry to restore function or prevent loss of function. The topic includes relevant aspects of general chemical and physical properties as well as biological considerations, including the interactions between living tissue and artificial materials. Furthermore there will be lectures on formal aspects about the production, selection and use of dental biomaterials.

Teaching and learning methods

The course is harmonized with preclinical course in cariology and prosthetics.
The program includes lectures, field trips and exercises aimed at a problem-based approach to specific topics.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Visit the laboratory for Biomateriales

Perform a small material science project and present the results

All teaching is mandatory, except for lectures. The student is responsible for reporting absences, and unexcused absences are not allowed.¿In addition to the attendance requirements, the academic requirements must be met, both in terms of the quality of the work and sufficient practice¿.
