Objectives and Content

Objectives:

The course aims to give detailed understanding of eukaryotic cells with main focus on the functions of subcellular structures and regulatory mechanisms involved in cell communication and cell division.

 

Content:

The course covers topics such as protein secretion, endocytosis, cytoskeleton, intracellular transport, cell communication, cell adhesion, tissues, cell cycle, apoptosis, nerve signaling, stem cells and cancer. Molecular and experimental understanding will be emphasized.

MOL100 (Introduction to Molecular Biology (10 ECTS), or equivalent course

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures and oral presentation.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

One oral presentation on a selected topic in cell biology.

Valid for two semesters (the current semester and the following semester).

Forms of Assessment

Written exam, 4 hours.

Examination Support Material

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.

Assessment Semester

The exam is held in both spring and autumn semesters. In semesters with no teaching, a resit exam is held early in the semester.

Reading List

The reading list will be available within July 1st for the autumn semester and December 1st for the spring semester.

Course Evaluation

Students will evaluate the teaching in line with UiB and the Department's quality assurance system.
