Objectives and Content

This course aims at promoting the students' ability to express themselves orally in Italian. It also gives an introduction to Italian phonetics.

The course largely consists of oral activity based on texts that address aspects of Italian society. Films will also be used as a starting point for conversations in Italian.

Upon completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:

Knowledge

Upon completion of the course, the student will

- have an overview of the fundamentals of Italian pronunciation

- be familiar with the basic principles for oral communication in Italian

- have knowledge of the main features of Italian society

Skills

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to

- explain the fundamentals of Italian pronunciation

- communicate orally in Italian at a certain level

General competence

Upon completion of the course, the student

- has the ability to conduct tasks that span a set period of time

- can work independently with key issues related to research material

- can further develop their knowledge with respect to their educational or professional interests

Access to the Course

The course is open to all students admitted to the University of Bergen.

Teaching and learning methods

The course comprises 2-hour seminars per week for a period of ten weeks. There will also be film screenings.

In the case that fewer than five students register for a course, the organized teaching may be adapted to fit the number of students. If this occurs, students will be informed at the start of the semester, and before the registration deadline 1 February/1 September.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Forms of Assessment

The assessment form is a 20-minute oral examination.

The starting point for the oral examination is an unknown text similar to the texts the students have worked with during the seminars. Candidates are given approximately 15 minutes to study the text before the examination.

Grading Scale

The grading scale is A-F, where F is a fail.

Assessment Semester

Spring and fall.

Reading List

The reading list provides information about what text are on the curriculum at any given time. The reading list will be ready by 1 Jul for the fall semester, and 1 Dec for the spring semester.

Course Evaluation

Evaluation of the course is carried out in accordance with the University of Bergen quality assurance system.
