Objectives and Content
The aim of the course is to give an entry-level, systematic introduction to Italian grammar.
The exercises that are part of the course are meant to integrate the grammar into the study of simple text in order to hone the students' ability to understand Italian and to be able to express themselves.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student is expected to:

- have knowledge of the main features of different aspects of Italian grammar

- be able to understand and account for certain grammatical research questions
- be able to use this knowledge in further pursuits in the study of Italian

- be equipped to execute a project over time
- be capable of working independently on a research question related to the curriculum

Proficiency in Italian at least equivalent to that of those having completed the course ITAL100
Credit Reduction due to Course Overlap
Due to certain academic overlaps, the credits awarded for taking ITAL121 are reduced by 10 ECTS if the course is combined with ITAL621, ITAL111 or ITAL101.
Access to the Course
The course is open to all students admitted to the University of Bergen.
Teaching and learning methods
Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures and seminar sessions with language exercises.
The frequency of the teaching in the course will normally be one two-hour lecture and one two-hour seminars on a weekly basis for a period of 10 weeks.
If less than 5 students sign up for the course, the teaching may be adjusted to the number of students enrolled. If so, students will be informed about the alternative teachings plan at the beginning of the semester and before the registration deadline 1 Feb/1 Sep.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Forms of Assessment
The assessment in the course is a four-hour written exam, consisting of several questions relating to issues raised in the course of the teaching. Both Norwegian and Italian may be used during the test.
Examination Support Material
A single-language Italian dictionary, which the students must bring to the exam themselves.
Grading Scale
The grading scale is A - F, where F is a fail.
Assessment Semester
Spring and fall.
Reading List
The reading list provides information about what text are on the curriculum at any given time.
The reading list will be ready by 1 Jul for the fall semester, and 1 Dec for the spring semester.
Course Evaluation
Evaluation of the course is carried out in accordance with the University of Bergen quality assurance system.
Programme Committee
The program committee is responsible for the academic content and structure of the study program, and for the quality of all the subjects therein.
