Objectives and Content

INFO100 will provide a basic introduction to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and their uses in society. The course will also provide a basic introduction to the problems addressed by information science theories and technologies. It will also give relevant examples of information science research and research method. The course includes laboratory assignments that provide basic experience in practical work with ICT tools.

Credit Reduction due to Course Overlap

INFO100 gives 5 credits in reduction when taken with DIKULT100. INFO100 also overlaps with the old topics INFO001 and HUIN100.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, lab or group exercises (normally 2 hours left in 11-14 weeks). It is expected that the students themselves organise a colloquium.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Mandatory assignments for lab assignments (80%), which must be passed and approved during the teaching semester

Approved compulsory requirements are valid for the two following semesters.

Forms of Assessment

3 hour written examination

The exam assignment will be given in the language of instruction in the course.
The exam answer must be submitted in the same language as the exam assignment.

Grading Scale

The grading system has a descending scale from A to E for passes and F for fail.

The exam is offered in the teaching semester

A retake exam is arranged for students with https://www.uib.no/en/student/118764/absence-examvalid absence according to ยง 5-5. If there is a retake exam, this will be available for students with the follow results/absences:

The course is evaluated by students every three years, by the Department every year.
