Objectives and Content

The course will provide students with an introduction to the skills and overview of knowledge needed to work with a master's thesis, such as the use of library resources, citation techniques and literature sources. It should also provide information about what a project description should contain.

A good proficiency in English is necessary since it ought to be assumed that much of the prescribed reading will be in English.

Access to the Course

A condition for entry into this course is having been accepted for the Masters programme in philosophy.

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching is offered in the form of lectures and/or seminars.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

An approval of compulsory requirements is valid for three semesters, including the semester in which the approval is given.

Book report of about 1000 words

Students must attend at least two thirds of the seminars.

Forms of Assessment

A project description between 2000 and 3000 words (not included list of contents, literature list etc). The theme of the project and the research litterature must be approved by the teacher. The assignment is to be delivered digitally in Mitt UiB and will be censored by the end of the semester.
