The course will give knowledge in general pharmacology prior to continuing studies in special pharmacology

• Pharmacodynamic: Studies on drugs and their effect. General knowledge on the drug's molecular mechanisms of action, including structure and function of the target proteins affected by drugs.
• Pharmacokinetic: The study of how drugs are influenced by physiological processes in the body.
• Basic physiology in some important diseases like cancer and diabetes.
• Introduction to special pharmacology, which encompasses medicinal treatment of some medical conditions, i.e. cholinergic and adrenergic pharmacology, light and strong analgesics, steroid hormones and cytostatic agents.
• Introduction to pharmacotherapy, where students work in groups to find optimal treatment for different, simpler case histories.

Knowledge

Upon completion of the course, the students have:

• acquired knowledge that are necessary for further studies in specialized pharmacology

Skills

Upon completion of the course, the students can:

• describe how drugs interact with receptors and other target proteins in the body
• describe key aspects connected to absorption, distribution of drugs, concentration of drugs in blood, and elimination.
• describe indications, mechanisms of actions, and physiological effects of the different drug classes subject to teaching.

• Mandatory attendance on three case-studies. Each case-study includes group work and presentation
• Approved written case report. This is a requirement for taking the final exam
